Excursions


All excursions will take place on Friday, 16 February, 2024


1. Discovering the Tagus estuary north-eastern shores and its birds

Take a tour along the northern and eastern shores of the Tagus Estuary, a haven for aquatic birds. Start your day with a visit to the scenic and biodiverse cork oak woodlands, and conclude with a guided tour of the EVOA lagoons, one of the best places to observe waterbirds in the Tagus Estuary, a wetland of international importance for migratory birds. This area is part of the Tagus Estuary Nature Reserve, and is included in the Natura 2000 network.

(Full day tour, transportation by bus and one or two walks of about 2 km each, both on easy flat trails. Pack lunch included).

2. From birdwatching in Lagoa Pequena to Arrábida´s mediterranean gem

A comprehensive tour that encompasses birdwatching at Lagoa Pequena, interconnected boardwalks leading to bird observatories, a visit to the cliffs of Cape Espichel, an exploration of the scenic Sesimbra castle, and an encounter with the Arrábida mountain - a sanctuary for Portugal's most pristine Mediterranean forest. The areas visited are mostly included in the Lagoa Pequena Special Protection Area and Arrábida Natural Park.
